At least 648 protesters have been killed by Iranian security forces during the ongoing protest movement, according to a report released Monday by Norway-based Iran Human Rights (IHR). The organization warned that the actual death toll is likely far higher.
Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, the director of IHR, stated, “The international community has a duty to protect civilian protesters against mass killing by the Islamic republic.”
The rights group noted that verifying the total number of fatalities remains a significant challenge due to the nearly four-day internet blackout imposed by Iranian authorities. “According to some estimates more than 6,000 may have been killed,” IHR reported, but emphasized the difficulty in independently confirming these figures under current conditions.
