The Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) announced on Wednesday that three foreign residents were killed and 36 individuals sustained varying injuries following separate attacks on Abha and King Khalid airports in the Asir region and the capital, Riyadh.

According to official communiques released by Saudi authorities, the incidents occurred across Tuesday and Wednesday, prompting immediate deployment of airport emergency response teams, medical personnel, and security units. The injured were transferred to specialized medical facilities, while civil aviation authorities activated safety contingency protocols to assess infrastructural impact and protect passenger transit.

Casualty Breakdown Across Abha and King Khalid Airports

Official data published by the General Authority of Civil Aviation revealed that the strike on Abha International Airport in southwestern Saudi Arabia resulted in two fatalities among female residents holding Moroccan and Algerian nationalities. In addition, 28 people sustained injuries, including Saudi citizens and foreign residents from Bangladesh and the Philippines, with wounds ranging from minor to severe.

At King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, the assault claimed the life of a male resident holding Sudanese nationality. Eight other individuals suffered injuries, including five Saudi citizens, two Egyptian residents, and one Pakistani resident, all of whom received immediate triage and medical care.

Official Victim and Nationality Data

– Abha International Airport: Two fatalities (Moroccan and Algerian female residents) and 28 injuries (Saudi citizens, Bangladeshi, and Filipino residents).

– King Khalid International Airport: One fatality (Sudanese male resident) and eight injuries (five Saudi citizens, two Egyptian residents, and one Pakistani resident).

– Medical Severity: Casualty assessments confirm a spectrum of injuries ranging from light concussions and lacerations to critical trauma requiring hospital admission.

– Structural Impact: Moderate material damage recorded across designated service facilities and operational annexes within both airport perimeters.

Emergency Response and Airport Infrastructure Assessments

GACA confirmed that specialized civil aviation units acted in direct coordination with security agencies to manage the aftermath of the strikes under approved crisis response blueprints. Emergency evacuation protocols ensured that passenger terminals remained organized while first responders assisted the wounded.

Engineering teams and safety inspectors initiated comprehensive technical surveys to determine the extent of physical damage to terminal infrastructure, runways, and baggage handling sectors. The authority emphasized that operational resilience remains prioritized to ensure uninterrupted navigation services while maintaining stringent safety standards.

Civil Aviation Protective Measures

– Instant activation of joint emergency operation rooms across Riyadh and Abha airports.

– Rapid medical evacuation of the injured to nearby tertiary healthcare centers.

– Technical integrity checks on navigation arrays, radar towers, and runway surfaces.

– Comprehensive coordination with domestic security bodies to safeguard travelers and airport personnel.

Protection of Civil Aviation Infrastructure Under International Standards

The targeting of civilian airport facilities presents serious operational and safety challenges for regional air navigation and commercial passenger corridors. Civil aviation hubs operate under strict international conventions that mandate the safeguarding of non-combatant travelers and commercial transport networks.

Saudi aviation authorities reiterated their adherence to international civil aviation security benchmarks, maintaining regular operational reviews to shield passenger aircraft, ground crews, and terminal visitors from ongoing security risks across the region.

Conclusion:

The official disclosures from the General Authority of Civil Aviation underscore the severe human cost of the recent attacks on Abha and King Khalid airports, resulting in three deaths and dozens of injuries among citizens and multinational residents. While emergency crews continue damage mitigation and medical support, civil aviation authorities remain committed to enforcing comprehensive protective measures across all commercial air transport hubs in the kingdom.
