China has raised its emergency response level as Typhoon Bavi moves closer to the country’s eastern coastline, with the China Meteorological Administration issuing a red alert, the highest level in its warning system, amid forecasts of torrential rains and severe weather conditions.

Red Alert Issued Over Heavy Rainfall Risks

The China Meteorological Administration issued a red alert for rainstorms, warning that several regions could experience heavy to extremely heavy rainfall as Typhoon Bavi approaches land.

Authorities warned that accumulated rainfall could reach between 250 and 500 millimeters in parts of eastern and southern Zhejiang Province and northern Fujian Province.

Meanwhile, parts of central and northern Taiwan Island could receive rainfall totals ranging between 250 and 800 millimeters.

The typhoon is expected to make landfall along China’s eastern coast on Sunday.

Authorities Evacuate More Than 600,000 Residents

As part of precautionary measures, Chinese authorities evacuated more than 600,000 people from Zhejiang and Fujian provinces ahead of the typhoon’s arrival.

Official media reported that evacuation operations included more than 500,000 residents in Zhejiang and over 100,000 people in Fujian, as authorities moved to reduce risks from flooding, storms, and heavy rainfall.

Preparations Continue Despite Gradual Weakening of Storm

Although Typhoon Bavi has gradually weakened, officials continue to treat it as a potential threat due to the expected rainfall intensity and possible impact on coastal areas.

Emergency agencies are closely monitoring the storm’s development and maintaining preparedness measures to protect residents and limit potential damage.

China Faces Active Typhoon Season

The China Climate Center had previously forecast increased typhoon activity during July, with several storms expected to make landfall or affect coastal regions at rates above previous averages.

China has strengthened early warning systems and evacuation plans to deal with extreme weather events during the annual typhoon season.

Conclusion:

China continues its preparations for Typhoon Bavi by issuing its highest-level weather warning and evacuating hundreds of thousands of residents, as authorities brace for heavy rainfall and severe storms along the eastern coast.
