Cybersecurity is becoming an increasingly important regional priority as digital transformation accelerates and cyber threats continue to evolve. Iraq hosted a specialized conference in Mosul focusing on artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, while the United Arab Emirates announced it had successfully prevented sophisticated cyberattacks targeting its financial sector.

Mosul Hosts “Aman” Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity

The city of Mosul concluded the two-day “Aman” Conference, bringing together cybersecurity experts, academics, and representatives from government, judicial, security, and media institutions.

The conference focused on strengthening digital security, enhancing institutional readiness through artificial intelligence, protecting critical data, and developing secure digital infrastructure capable of addressing modern cyber threats.

Participants also highlighted successful experiences in applying AI across security, judicial, administrative, and media sectors while emphasizing the importance of investing in national talent and modern digital legislation.

Building National Digital Capabilities

Speakers stressed that cybersecurity has become a national necessity for protecting institutions, digital infrastructure, and sensitive information, calling for stronger cooperation between academic, security, judicial, and governmental institutions to prepare for rapidly evolving cyber risks.

UAE Successfully Thwarts Advanced Cyberattacks on Financial Sector

Reflecting the growing sophistication of cyber threats, the UAE Cybersecurity Council announced that the country’s national cybersecurity system had successfully detected and contained advanced cyberattacks targeting several financial institutions.

According to the council, the attacks included attempts to compromise digital infrastructure, phishing campaigns, exploitation of security vulnerabilities, malware deployment, and the use of artificial intelligence to enhance attack complexity.

Round-the-Clock Monitoring and Rapid Response

The council stated that national cybersecurity teams operate around the clock in coordination with relevant authorities and strategic partners to ensure continuous monitoring, early threat detection, intelligence sharing, and rapid incident response to safeguard digital assets and critical financial services.

Cybersecurity Emerges as a Regional Strategic Priority

The developments in Iraq and the UAE highlight a growing regional commitment to strengthening cybersecurity capabilities as governments increasingly invest in digital resilience, artificial intelligence, and institutional preparedness to protect critical infrastructure from evolving cyber threats.

Conclusion:

The Mosul cybersecurity conference and the UAE’s successful response to sophisticated cyberattacks demonstrate the region’s increasing focus on cybersecurity as an essential pillar of digital transformation. As cyber threats become more advanced, strengthening institutional capabilities and regional cooperation remains critical to protecting digital infrastructure and ensuring long-term resilience.
