A Ukrainian drone attack in Donetsk left seven civilians dead and 11 injured after a passenger bus was struck early Wednesday, according to local authorities appointed by Moscow.
Denis Pushilin, head of the self-declared Donetsk People’s Republic, said the attack targeted a bus traveling from Moscow to Simferopol in Crimea, which Russia annexed in 2014.
Bus Hit in Yenakiieve
Pushilin wrote on social media that a combat drone struck the Moscow–Simferopol bus in the city of Yenakiieve.
According to preliminary information cited by local authorities, seven civilians were killed and 11 others sustained injuries of varying severity. All injured passengers are receiving medical treatment, officials said.
Pushilin expressed condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to the wounded.
Agence France-Presse also reported that authorities in the Russian-controlled part of Donetsk confirmed the same casualty figures following the strike.
Moscow Reports Large-Scale Drone Interceptions
In a separate statement, Russia’s Defense Ministry said it intercepted 354 Ukrainian drones overnight between Tuesday and Wednesday across Russian territory.
The governor of the Leningrad region, Alexander Drozdenko, stated that 50 drones were downed in his region alone.
The reported figures reflect the growing reliance on unmanned aerial vehicles by both sides in the ongoing conflict.
Casualty Reported in Southern Ukraine
Meanwhile, Ukrainian authorities reported that an 86-year-old woman was killed in the southern city of Kherson in a Russian drone attack.
Yaroslav Shanko, head of the local military administration, confirmed the fatality, highlighting the continued civilian toll on both sides of the conflict.
Escalation in Drone Warfare
The Ukrainian drone attack in Donetsk comes amid intensified cross-border drone operations between Russia and Ukraine.
Recent developments include:
– A bus strike in Yenakiieve resulting in civilian casualties.
– Moscow’s claim of intercepting hundreds of drones in a single night.
– Continued civilian deaths in frontline and border regions.
Drone warfare has become a central feature of the conflict, affecting infrastructure and civilian areas as both sides expand their use of aerial systems.
