MSF Reports Catastrophic Humanitarian Conditions in Gaza Despite October 2025 Ceasefire

Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has issued a stark warning about the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, revealing that the ceasefire implemented since October 2025 has failed to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian population. The international medical organization documented at least 733 people killed and 1,913 others wounded since the ceasefire began, underscoring the continued violence and Israeli military operations in the territory.

MSF’s assessment paints a picture of a Gaza humanitarian crisis that extends far beyond combat deaths. The organization’s medical teams have conducted more than 40,000 wound dressings for injuries from gunshot wounds and explosions, with direct attacks accounting for over 60% of all trauma cases treated in MSF clinics. These figures reveal the systematic nature of violence affecting the civilian population despite the nominal ceasefire agreement.

Health System Systematically Dismantled Through Aid Restrictions

The core of MSF’s warning centers on deliberate obstruction of humanitarian assistance. Israeli authorities have revoked the registration of 37 international aid organizations, including MSF, effectively preventing them from importing medical supplies since the beginning of 2026. MSF Emergency Manager Claire San Filippo stated that Israeli authorities are imposing conditions aimed at destroying living conditions through the systematic restriction of aid entry.

This blockade has created a medical emergency within an already dire humanitarian situation. More than 18,500 patients, including 4,000 children, are awaiting medical evacuation that remains blocked by occupation authorities. The health system is being “systematically strangled,” according to MSF’s assessment, leaving the population without access to critical surgical care, medicines for chronic diseases, and wound management supplies.

Widespread Disease Outbreak Among Displaced Population

MSF has documented a high prevalence of skin infections, intestinal diseases, and respiratory illnesses across Gaza. These disease patterns reflect the catastrophic living conditions resulting from overcrowding and the forced displacement of approximately 90% of the population. Families are confined to makeshift shelters without adequate sanitation, clean water, or ventilation, creating ideal conditions for disease transmission.

The organization noted that malnutrition rates remain elevated despite improvements in some food security metrics. The combination of disease, malnutrition, and lack of medical care creates a compounding health crisis that affects the most vulnerable populations first: children, the elderly, and those with chronic illnesses.

Territory Divided Into Zones of Violence

MSF’s statement describes how Israeli occupation has effectively fragmented Gaza through what is termed the “yellow line.” This division confines Palestinians to only 42% of the destroyed lands, while the area surrounding the line has become what MSF characterizes as “a killing zone under constant bombardment by aircraft, artillery, and warships.”

This geographical constraint, combined with ongoing military operations, prevents access to remaining functioning medical facilities and limits the ability of humanitarian organizations to reach affected populations. Entire neighborhoods remain inaccessible due to active military presence and continued bombardment.

International Community Urged to Intervene

MSF has called directly on the international community to use all available political pressure to compel Israel, as the occupying power, to protect civilians, restore decent living conditions, and allow unhindered entry of urgent humanitarian and medical aid. The organization emphasized that current restrictions violate international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions.

The warning comes at a critical moment when the ceasefire framework has failed to produce meaningful improvements in civilian protection or humanitarian access. MSF stressed that without immediate changes in policy, the humanitarian situation will continue to deteriorate, with preventable deaths increasing across the affected population.

Key Statistics on Gaza’s Medical Crisis:

  • 733 people killed since October 2025 ceasefire
  • 1,913 others wounded in the same period
  • 40,000+ wound dressings for combat injuries in MSF clinics
  • 60% of clinic cases are direct attack injuries
  • 18,500 patients awaiting medical evacuation (blocked)
  • 4,000 children among those awaiting evacuation
  • 90% of population forcibly displaced
  • 42% of land accessible to Palestinians

Factors Contributing to the Health System Collapse:

  • Registration of 37 international NGOs revoked
  • MSF unable to import medical supplies since January 2026
  • Systematic bombardment preventing facility access
  • Shortage of medicines for chronic disease management
  • Lack of wound care and surgical supplies
  • Contaminated water and inadequate sanitation
  • Overcrowding in displacement camps

Conclusion:

The MSF statement represents one of the most direct assessments of Gaza’s humanitarian catastrophe since the October 2025 ceasefire. Despite nominal adherence to a ceasefire agreement, the organization documents continued violence, systematic restriction of aid, and deliberate obstruction of medical care. For the Palestinian population of Gaza, the ceasefire has brought no relief from suffering, only a continuation of crisis under different conditions. International action is now critical to prevent further deterioration.
