An explosion at a residential building in the southern Iranian city of Bandar Abbas on Saturday was caused by a gas leak, according to local officials. The blast resulted in multiple injuries and significant damage to the structure and surrounding property.
The incident occurred at an eight-story building on Moallem Boulevard. Mohammad Amin Lyaghat, the local fire chief, stated that the initial investigation points to a gas leak and subsequent buildup as the cause of the explosion. The blast destroyed two floors of the building and damaged several vehicles and nearby shops.
Mehrdad Hassanzadeh, director general of crisis management for Hormozgan province, confirmed that the injured were transported to hospitals by emergency responders. State media images showed the building’s facade blown out, with debris scattered around the area.
Amidst regional tensions, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) issued a statement denying online rumors that any of its naval facilities in the province had been targeted.
In a separate incident on the same day, officials reported another gas explosion in the city of Ahvaz, in the southwestern Khuzestan province, which killed four people.
