Following recent Iran protests, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated on Wednesday that there would be no executions “today or tomorrow” for those involved. This announcement was made during an interview with the American broadcaster Fox News.
Araghchi’s statement appears to modify earlier declarations from Tehran which suggested an acceleration of trials for detained protesters.
During the interview, the Foreign Minister claimed that 10 days of peaceful demonstrations concerning economic conditions were succeeded by three days of violence, which he alleged were “orchestrated by Israel.” He added that calm has now been restored throughout the country.
“I can tell you, I’m confident that there is no plan for hanging,” Araghchi affirmed.
