US Embassy in Saudi Arabia Issues Caution Advisory Amid Regional Tensions

Members of the Basij volunteer Islamic militia burn US and Israeli flags during a protest in front of the British Embassy in Tehran on January 14, 2026. The Basij, linked to the Revolutionary Guards, are among the most devout supporters of the Islamic regime in Iran. A funeral ceremony was held on January 14 for over 100 members of the security forces and other "martyrs" killed in the demonstrations, which authorities have branded as "riots" while accusing protesters of waging "acts of terror".

The US embassy in Saudi Arabia issued a security alert on Wednesday, advising its personnel to exercise “increased caution” in light of escalating regional tensions.

The advisory follows threats from Washington to respond to the Iranian government’s crackdown on internal protests.

In a statement published on its website, the embassy urged its staff to limit non-essential travel and avoid military installations. The warning was also extended to all American citizens residing in the Kingdom.
