Spain’s government summoned the Iranian ambassador on Tuesday to convey its “strong repudiation and condemnation” of the violent crackdown on protesters in Iran. According to human rights organizations, the crackdown has resulted in hundreds of people being killed.
Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares stated that the rights of Iranian citizens to peaceful protest and freedom of expression must be upheld. Speaking to Catalunya Radio, he demanded an end to arbitrary arrests.
