Venezuela parliament head vows to use all avenues to 'bring back' Maduro

Venezuela's National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez speaks during a session of the National Assembly in Caracas on January 5, 2026. Venezuela's parliament swore in Delcy Rodriguez as interim president on January 5, two days after US forces seized her predecessor Nicolas Maduro to face trial in New York. Members of the new National Assembly offered their full backing to Rodriguez -- who had been Maduro's vice president -- and reelected her brother Jorge Rodriguez as parliament head.

The newly re-elected head of Venezuela’s parliament vowed Monday to explore all avenues to “bring back” ousted president Nicolas Maduro, snatched in a US military operation over the weekend and flown to New York.

“My main function in the days to come… as president of this National Assembly, will be to resort to all procedures, all platforms, and all avenues to bring back Nicolas Maduro Moros, my brother, my president,” Jorge Rodriguez told lawmakers.
