Iraq’s Meteorological Authority announced an unstable weather pattern over the coming days, with forecasts of heavy rainfall, potential flash floods, and thunderstorms in several regions.

According to a statement reported by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Sunday’s weather will be mostly cloudy nationwide with moderate rainfall beginning in the western parts of the central and northern regions, later extending to other areas during the night. Thunderstorms are also possible in multiple locations. Winds will be southeasterly and moderate, while temperatures remain relatively stable across provinces.

On Monday, widespread rainfall is expected throughout most of the country, with the southern region receiving its share by evening. Rainfall may become heavy at times, especially in Erbil, Sulaymaniyah, and Diyala, accompanied by thunderstorms and a risk of flash floods in some areas. Temperatures are also forecast to drop noticeably.

The unstable conditions will continue into Tuesday as cloudy, rainy weather persists across Iraq, with precipitation ranging from light to moderate and intermittent breaks. Thunderstorms may develop in certain areas, and winds could strengthen to 40–50 km/h in several regions. Temperatures will remain steady in the central and southern areas and rise slightly in the north.

On Wednesday, significant rainfall is expected in the early morning hours, particularly in Mosul, Duhok, Sulaymaniyah, and Erbil, with thunderstorms and a serious risk of flash floods in mountainous and sloped areas. Weather conditions are expected to improve gradually after midnight as the storm system shifts eastward, with light rain lingering over eastern provinces until Thursday morning. Winds will be southeasterly and active, occasionally exceeding 50 km/h, while temperatures will decrease slightly in central and southern regions.
