UAE welcomes Trump's efforts to end Sudan war

Sudanese who fled El-Fasher in Darfur fill jerrycans with water at the Al-Afad camp for displaced people in the town of Al-Dabba, northern Sudan, on November 21, 2025. Since its outbreak in April 2023, the war between Sudan's army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has killed tens of thousands of people and displaced nearly 12 million. At the end of October, the paramilitary group seized control El-Fasher, the conclusion of a bitter 18-month siege for the strategic hub in western Sudan's Darfur region and marked by reports of mass killings and sexual violence.

The United Arab Emirates on Friday welcomed the announcement by US President Donald Trump on efforts to end the war in Sudan, urging an “immediate and unconditional ceasefire”.

Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan “welcomed the statements of US President Donald Trump calling for an end to the horrific attacks perpetrated against civilians during the civil war, which has been ongoing for more than two years, as well as his leading the efforts to achieve stability in Sudan”, in a call with chief US diplomat Marco Rubio, a ministry statement said.

The UAE has been frequently accused of backing the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) at war with Sudan’s army — a charge it denies.
