Minister says Iranians gave 'blood' not 'honour' in Israel war

TOPSHOT - A mourner reaches out to touch the coffin of Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commander Hossein Salami (C), and other military commanders killed in Israeli strikes on Iran, during their funeral procession at Enghelab (Revolution) Square in the capital Tehran on June 28, 2025. Iran began a state funeral service on June 28, for around 60 people, including its military commanders, killed in its war with Israel, after Tehran's top diplomat condemned the US' President's comments on Iran's supreme leader as "unacceptable". Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Saturday that his compatriots had given their “blood” during a 12-day war with Israel but “not honour”, as Iran held a state funeral.

“Iranians gave blood, not land; gave their loved ones, not honour; they withstood a thousand-ton rain of bombs, but did not surrender,” Abbas Araghchi said on his Instagram account, adding that Iran does not recognise the word “surrender”.
