Turkey’s main opposition CHP will not to “surrender”, its leader Ozgur Ozel vowed after a court dismissed the leadership of its Istanbul branch in the latest legal blow against the party.
“The court’s decision is politically and legally null and void. We do not recognise it…. Let everyone know we will not surrender,” he said in an interview with the opposition Halk TV, pledging to appeal the decision.
The court ruling triggered a sharp reaction on Istanbul’s stock exchange, which shed 5.5 percent.
