Syria state media reports car blast in Damascus, no casualties

Tribal fighters gather in the landmark Umayyad Square in Damascus on July 19, 2025, as they prepare to reinforce tribal and Bedouin forces in the southern Syrian Sweida province, whose longstanding enmity towards the Druze erupted into violence on July 13. At least 718 people have been killed in Syria's Sweida province, a war monitor said on July 19, in an updated toll for nearly a week of violence in the heartland of the Druze minority. Syrian state media said a car bomb exploded in Damascus on Saturday evening without causing casualties.

“An explosion was heard in the Mazzeh area,” state news agency SANA said, referring to an upscale area of Damascus also home to embassies and United Nations offices.

State television said the blast was caused by “an explosive device planted inside an old car”, adding that there were no reports of injuries.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitor said the blast targeted a vehicle near a hotel.
