Hurricane Melissa’s winds dipped to a still “powerful” storm, as it passed Tuesday over Jamaica, where it landed with historic ferocity and torrential rains.
“Melissa remains a powerful Category 4 hurricane over Northwestern Jamaica,” the US National Hurricane Center said in its latest advisory, adding that the storm was packing maximum winds of 150 miles (240 kilometers) per hour. “This is an extremely dangerous and life-threatening situation!”
