French President Emmanuel Macron hailed Saturday a peace agreement between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda as “a historic step forward”, after the two countries signed a deal to end fighting that has killed thousands.
“The peace agreement between the DRC and Rwanda, with the support of the United States, is a historic step forward after decades of suffering… To the Congolese and Rwandans, France sends a message of hope,” Macron said on social media platform X, adding that “peace must hold”.
