Israel army says Red Cross on way to collect 'several' hostage bodies in Gaza

Mourners light candles and offer condolences in Kathmandu on October 15, 2025, during a candlelight vigil held for Bipin Joshi, a deceased Nepali agricultural student who died while being held hostage in Gaza by the Palestinian militant group Hamas. The Israeli military said on October 14, that the bodies of four hostages returned by Hamas following a US-brokered truce have been identified, including that of a Nepali student. Joshi, who was 22 at the time of the attack, was part of a Nepali agricultural training group that had arrived in Israel three weeks before the Hamas assault. He was abducted from Kibbutz Alumim.

The Israeli military said the Red Cross was headed to northern Gaza late Wednesday where it would receive “several” hostage bodies to be handed over as part of a ceasefire deal.

“The Red Cross is on its way to the meeting point in the northern Gaza Strip, where several coffins of deceased hostages will be transferred into its custody,” a joint statement from the Israeli military and security agency said.

Hamas’s armed wing earlier said it would hand over the bodies of two hostages held in Gaza at 1900 GMT on Wednesday as part of the US-brokered agreement.
