Salahuddin – reported from the Iraqi News Agency
Iraq’s Minister of Defense, Thabit Al-Abbasi, confirmed on Monday that all Iraqi provinces are included in the government’s decision to distribute residential land plots to officers and soldiers, noting that allocations have already been completed in five provinces.
Al-Abbasi told the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that “providing adequate housing for every Iraqi citizen is one of the current government’s top priorities. The Ministry of Defense has been working on this issue for years and even approached the Federal Supreme Court to resolve the legal dispute regarding the interpretation of Paul Bremer’s decision.”
He explained that the lands previously owned by the Ministry of Defense were restored following a Federal Court ruling, and—through coordination with Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani and the Council of Ministers—have been reallocated for distribution to ministry personnel according to their province of origin.
The Minister confirmed that land allocations have been finalized in five provinces and are expected to be completed in two or three more next week, stressing that the process will continue until all Iraqi provinces are covered.
Earlier today, the Ministry of Defense also laid the foundation stone for the “Al-Ula City” project in Salahuddin Province, which includes more than 17,300 serviced plots to be distributed among officers, other ranks, and ministry employees from the province.
