Iran says jailed French couple granted 'conditional release'

This photograph shows the newly displayed portraits of French national Cecile Kohler (L) currently imprisoned in Iran with her partner French national Jacques Paris (C) along with a placard reading "Freedom for Cecile Kohler and Jacques Paris arbitrarily detained in Iran for over two years in appalling conditions" outside the Palais Bourbon, France's National Assembly, following their meeting with the President of France's National Assembly, in Paris, on March 25, 2025. French teacher and trade unionist Cecile Kohler and former mathematics teacher Jacques Paris, who were arrested in May 2022 while on a tourist trip to Iran, were released after three years of captivity, said France's President Emmanuel Macron on November 4, 2025.

French couple Cecile Kohler and Jacques Paris, who were released from prison in Iran on Tuesday after more than three years in detention, are out on “conditional release” and remain on bail, the Iranian foreign ministry said Tuesday.

“These two French nationals, jailed for a long time over national security infractions, have been released on bail by the judge in charge of the case and will be placed under surveillance until the next stage of the judicial proceedings,” ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said in statement whose heading described the pair’s “conditional release”.
