The death toll from a capsized boat carrying migrants earlier this week off the coast of Mauritania has climbed to 69, an official told AFP on Friday.

“The number of bodies recovered has reached 69”, a senior coast guard official said, up from the previous 49 reported earlier in the day. Migrants said there had been about 160 people on board the boat when it capsized Tuesday, including Senegalese and Gambian nationals.
