China condemns 'coercion' after Trump floats tariffs on Russia allies

This combination of pictures created on June 04, 2025 shows, L/R, US President Donald Trump in Morristown, New Jersey, May 23, 2025, and Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin in Moscow on May 28, 2025. US President Donald Trump said he spoke to Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin Wednesday about Ukraine and Iran, warning that the Kremlin leader had "very strongly" pledged to respond to Kyiv's stunning drone attack on Russian bombers. Trump said that there was no "immediate peace" on the horizon in Ukraine -- which Russia invaded in 2022 -- following what he described as a one hour and 15 minute call with the Russian president. China condemned on Tuesday “coercion” by the United States, after President Donald Trump threatened “very severe” tariffs against Moscow’s remaining trade partners if it doesn’t resolve its war in Ukraine within 50 days.

“China firmly opposes all illegal unilateral sanctions and long-arm jurisdiction. There are no winners in a tariff war, and coercion and pressure will not solve problems,” Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Lin Jian said.
