African Union urges Sudan to bring aid, 'silence guns' after deadly landslide

In this photograph taken on July 20, 2025, a man stands at a landslide-prone area near the Arniko Highway in Nepal's Kavre district. Every year during monsoon, floods and landslides wreak havoc across South Asia, killing hundreds of people. Nepal is especially vulnerable due to unstable geology, shifting rainfall patterns, and poorly planned development. The African Union on Tuesday urged Sudan to “silence the guns” and allow aid delivery to victims of a deadly landslide in North Darfur that has killed more than 1,000 people.

“In these painful circumstances, the Chairperson of the Commission reaffirms the unwavering solidarity of the African Union with the affected populations and calls on all Sudanese stakeholders to silence the guns and unite in facilitating the swift and effective delivery of emergency humanitarian assistance to those in need,” the AU said in a statement on X.
