Iraq’s Minister of Electricity, Ziyad Ali Fadel, announced on Saturday the commissioning of ten fixed and mobile power stations in Basra to enhance grid stability and improve electricity supply.
During his visit to the province, the minister inaugurated several key distribution projects, including the Al-Jumhouri (33/11 kV) station with a capacity of (2×31.5 MVA). The station is expected to ease the load on the Kafaat and Nazran stations and provide power to the Kafaat neighborhood, Al-Muallimeen district, Al-Jumhouri Hospital, the medicine warehouses, and the Kuwaiti surgical complex. Other inaugurated stations include Kut Thuwaini, Sinalco, and the Presidential Palaces station, all with similar capacity.
Fadel further announced the activation of six additional mobile stations: Al-Sikkak, Al-Najareen, Al-Saraji, Al-Kunooz, Mihijran, and Owaisyan. He emphasized that these projects will increase the network’s capacity, reduce peak load pressure, and enhance response to outages, ensuring greater voltage stability in the targeted areas.
The minister also expressed his appreciation to the technical and administrative teams for completing the projects on schedule, while praising the people of Basra for their continued cooperation and support for the Ministry of Electricity’s efforts.
