NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte arrived in Kyiv on a surprise visit Tuesday, just hours after Russia launched what Ukraine’s largest private energy company described as the most powerful attack on the country’s energy sector this year.

Ukraine’s energy provider, DTEK, stated that the overnight assault involved dozens of drones and missiles. The company confirmed that the attack targeted and damaged power generation and distribution facilities across the country, labeling it “the most powerful attack on the energy sector since the beginning of the year.”

Following the widespread attacks, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky posted a video of himself with Rutte in the Ukrainian capital. The footage showed the two leaders laying flowers at a memorial wall in central Kyiv to honor the soldiers killed since the beginning of the Russian invasion.

A significant Russian attack on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure occurred overnight, with energy provider DTEK calling it the most powerful assault of the year. Dozens of drones and missiles reportedly damaged power facilities throughout the country, impacting both generation and distribution.

In the immediate aftermath of this major Russian attack on Ukraine, NATO chief Mark Rutte made an unannounced trip to Kyiv. He met with President Volodymyr Zelensky, and together they paid tribute to fallen soldiers at a memorial, underscoring the alliance’s continued attention to the conflict.

According to multiple media sources.
