Israeli FM says Rafah crossing likely to reopen Sunday

Trucks loaded with humanitarian aid on the Egyptian side of the Rafah crossing wait to cross into the Gaza Strip early on October 15, 2025, after Israel said it would allow the crossing to reopen for humanitarian aid to enter from Egypt into the Palestinian territory. The UN and aid organisations have urged the reopening of the major crossing as Gaza faces a devastating humanitarian crisis after two years of war in the territory, sparked by Hamas October 7, 2023 attack.

The Rafah crossing between Gaza and Egypt will likely reopen on Sunday, Israel Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said on Thursday as he attended a meeting in Italy, according to Italian news agencies.

He said that preparations were being made for the strategic crossing — a key entry point for humanitarian aid — to be reopened and that he “hoped” it will happen, according to comments he made on the sidelines of a gathering of Mediterranean-area ministers in Naples.
