The Commission for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Special Needs at the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs announced on Tuesday that more than 127,000 children are currently covered by the caregiver salary program across Iraq.
According to a statement cited by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the number of beneficiaries under the age of 18 has reached 127,199 children, distributed by type of disability and gender.
Commission Chairperson Dhikra Abdul Rahim explained that “the highest percentage of cases were recorded among children with intellectual disabilities, totaling 8,606 beneficiaries, followed by various types of paralysis, then cerebral palsy. Other cases included autism, Down syndrome, brain atrophy, epilepsy, as well as visual and hearing impairments.”
She added that “the number of beneficiaries under functional leave between 2016 and 2025 reached 59,523, noting that these statistics serve as a database for developing programs and projects within the national strategic plan of the Commission, aimed at strengthening the rights of persons with disabilities and ensuring their access to a dignified life and broader opportunities for social inclusion.”
