Brazil’s government on Thursday rejected US “threats” after Secretary of State Marco Rubio vowed Washington would “respond accordingly” to the coup-plotting conviction of ex-president Jair Bolsonaro.
Writing on X, the Brazilian foreign ministry said that “threats like those made today by the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio…will not intimidate our democracy.”
President Donald Trump had criticized Bolsonaro’s trial as a “witch hunt.”
