Iraqi security authorities continue their campaign against drug trafficking networks, announcing a series of security operations that resulted in the seizure of large quantities of narcotics, including Captagon pills and crystal meth, and the arrest of several suspects involved in drug-related activities across different provinces.<\/p>\n
The General Directorate of Narcotics Affairs and Psychotropic Substances announced the seizure of 51 kilograms of Captagon pills and the arrest of two suspects, including one Arab national, during two separate security operations.<\/p>\n
The directorate stated that the operations were carried out by specialized units from the Investigation Department and covert surveillance teams, adding that legal procedures were taken against the suspects before referring them to the competent judicial authorities.<\/p>\n
In a separate operation, the Iraqi National Security Service announced the arrest of an international drug trafficker who allegedly used the identity of a \u201cwar journalist\u201d as a cover for his criminal activities.<\/p>\n
The service said the suspect exploited this false identity to facilitate the transportation of crystal meth between provinces, eventually moving the drugs into Baghdad for distribution among smaller dealers.<\/p>\n
The National Security Service confirmed that narcotics quantities were found in the suspect\u2019s possession, along with several forged identification documents used to facilitate his movements.<\/p>\n
In Dhi Qar Province, security forces arrested another suspect accused of drug trafficking and seized more than 111,000 Captagon pills along with a firearm.<\/p>\n
In Al-Diwaniyah Province, security forces also arrested a suspect carrying crystal meth, while dismantling a four-member criminal network and seizing weapons, drug-use equipment and cash.<\/p>\n
The latest operations are part of Iraq\u2019s ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking networks that use various methods to smuggle and distribute illegal substances inside the country.<\/p>\n
Security authorities emphasized that intensified intelligence and field operations aim to limit the spread of drug-related crimes, strengthen community security and bring those involved before the courts.<\/p>\n
