Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Sunday that Tehran will not retreat from its right to enrich uranium, reaffirming a key position in ongoing discussions with the United States.<\/p>\n
His remarks come amid continued diplomatic engagement between Iran and Washington, as both sides explore potential agreements related to Iran\u2019s nuclear program.<\/p>\n
In statements reported by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Pezeshkian said:<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will not retreat from our right to uranium enrichment,\u201d adding that \u201cthe other side is obliged to accept this.\u201d<\/p>\n
The comments underscore Iran\u2019s long-standing position that uranium enrichment is a sovereign right under international frameworks, even as negotiations continue over limits and monitoring mechanisms.<\/p>\n
At the same time, the Iranian president stressed that Iran is not seeking to develop nuclear weapons.<\/p>\n
He stated that \u201call provisions of the memorandum of understanding with the United States serve Iran\u2019s interests,\u201d adding that \u201cthe results and gains of the negotiations will become clear soon.\u201d<\/p>\n
Pezeshkian also said that US President Donald Trump, who had previously opposed Iran\u2019s nuclear rights, has now acknowledged \u201cthe rights of the Iranian people\u201d in a recent speech, indicating what he described as a shift in Washington\u2019s position.<\/p>\n
According to Pezeshkian, the only US condition is that Iran must not possess a nuclear bomb. He emphasized that Iran does not intend to develop such weapons, stating that this position had been consistently affirmed by the late Iranian Supreme Leader.<\/p>\n
The Iranian president framed this as a basis for potential agreement, suggesting that differences between the two sides may be narrowing.<\/p>\n
Pezeshkian also announced that Iran will regain access to 6 billion dollars of its funds currently held in Qatar, a move that could have economic and political implications as negotiations progress.<\/p>\n
