He added that these groups do not wish to endanger Iraq and that those who lay down their arms can participate in the political process and government.<\/p>\n<h2>Protecting diplomatic missions amid<\/h2>\n<p>regional tensions With US Iran tensions rising and new nuclear talks scheduled in Geneva, fears persist that Iraq could be dragged into confrontation.<br \/>\nMaliki pledged that if he becomes prime minister his government will prevent attacks on embassies and any internationally recognised diplomatic interests.<br \/>\nHe said no group will be allowed to target foreign missions inside Iraq.<\/p>\n<h3>Energy reliance and regional stability<\/h3>\n<p>Maliki highlighted Iraq\u2019s dependence on Iranian natural gas to meet its energy needs.
