A senior Saudi official has confirmed that Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Oman conducted urgent diplomatic efforts to persuade US President Donald Trump to cancel a planned military attack on Iran.<\/p>\n
The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described a “frantic, diplomatic last-minute effort” to de-escalate rising tensions in the region. This account was corroborated by another Gulf official and diplomatic sources familiar with the discussions.<\/p>\n
The intervention came as the United States issued repeated warnings of potential military action in response to the Iranian government’s crackdown on protesters. Tehran had, in turn, threatened to retaliate against US military targets in the region.<\/p>\n
Amid the tensions, security measures were heightened at key US installations, including Al-Udeid Airbase in Qatar. According to two diplomatic sources, some personnel were moved from the base on Wednesday. However, the sources confirmed on Thursday that the security posture had been lowered and that personnel and aircraft were beginning to return as the immediate threat subsided.<\/p>\n
The Saudi official stated that the diplomatic objective was to “avoid an uncontrollable situation in the region,” and that Washington was warned an attack “would open the way for a series of grave blowbacks.”<\/p>\n
A second Gulf official added that a clear message was also sent to Tehran, stating that any attack on US facilities would have direct consequences on Iran’s relations with other countries in the region.
