US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will meet Friday with Qatar’s prime minister after an Israeli strike on Hamas in the US partner, the State Department said.<\/p>\n
Rubio, who is also President Donald Trump’s national security advisor, will meet Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani at the White House, a State Department schedule said.<\/p>\n
Israel on Tuesday carried out strikes on Hamas leadership in Qatar, which has served as a key intermediary in the nearly two-year Gaza war and is home to a US base.<\/p>\n
Trump distanced the United States from the attack and said that his administration sought to stop Israel but found out too late.<\/p>\n
Al Thani has voiced outrage over the attack, saying that Israel was killing hopes for a ceasefire that would free hostages held by Hamas, although he has also said that Qatar would keep playing a role in peace efforts.<\/p>\n
