The Ministry of Interior announced on Friday the adoption of the electronic signature system within the passport department, as part of its efforts to enhance digital services and data accuracy.
Director of Civil Status, Passports, and Residence, Lt. Gen. Nashat Al-Khafaji, stated that the ministry has begun relying on National ID data within both the passport and national ID systems. He noted that the Minister of Interior has directed all institutions to share data to facilitate the creation of a unified digital identity and simplify governmental transactions.
Al-Khafaji added that both passports and national ID cards are now issued only after being electronically signed by the authorized employee within the secure system, ensuring authenticity and reliability.
He explained that the ministry has activated a central data hub that transfers information between the national ID system and requesting institutions, allowing data to be shared within minutes and eliminating the need for traditional verification procedures. This, he said, will ease the burden on citizens and reduce administrative delays.
Al-Khafaji also revealed that the ministry is working on several future digital projects, including the E-Housing Project, which is expected to bring a significant improvement in managing citizens’ housing and address data across the country.
